Jade approaches behavior modification through an interdisciplinary lens including neuroscience, physiology, the nervous system, and behavior analysis. After earning a degree in biology with minors in chemistry and philosophy, her experience with owning a fearful dog with resource guarding and dog aggression inspired her to learn more about behavior and behavior change. Soon after, her ADHD was diagnosed alongside a previously known thyroid disorder, prompting her to stop trying to conform to other trainers’ expectations and instead find and use ADHD/chronic fatigue friendly training solutions. Now, her primary goal is to help other neurodivergent, disabled, and/or tired and busy pet owners to find sustainable solutions so they can start enjoying time with their dog again, instead of feeling like they’re failing their dog or can’t be consistent enough.

Case Study - Gnocchi, Personal Dog

When my 8 months old puppy put 3 or 4 punctures in a younger puppy’s face during boarding over an ice cube, I knew I had to do something. I couldn’t afford a behavior consultant, so I became one instead. Despite a deep dive into force free training and cooperative care practices and his behavior improving some, I found I still felt frustrated and discouraged. I felt like I wasn’t able to be as consistent enough, or involved enough in his training due to my ADHD and chronic fatigue - I felt like I was failing him. And, I found myself frustrated and overwhelmed with having to constantly micromanage his behavior. In a search for more options, I took a deep dive into learning about truly choice based training, the nervous system, attachment theory, and pain. Now, most of his behaviors have dissipated after identifying the root cause, and adjusting my own expectations and assumptions. The little training we do is focused on having fun, and fits in with my needs to conserve energy too!
