Repair your relationship with your dog

You’re in the right place if you…

  • Don’t really like your dog right now. You love them, but don’t really like them right now

  • Have a dog who is reactive or aggressive (barking, lunging, biting), guards things from you, or acts extremely fearful and you’re ready to understand why

  • Are ready to stop feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, and worried over your dog’s behavior

  • Are worried traditional training plans and trainers will expect too much time and work

  • Want to learn all the related concepts and how to continue making progress on your own afterward, instead of just being told exactly what to do

  • Have already worked with trainers and haven’t made progress, or haven’t made enough progress

If you’re saying “YES! That’s me!”

The Canine Connection program is a unique program developed specifically for busy, tired, and/or neurodivergent individuals so you can work with your dog at (mostly) your own pace, thoroughly understand their behavior and the modification process so you can continue to apply the techniques after your program, and develop a strong, secure relationship with your dog through a holistic, trauma informed approach. (all in your pajamas, because it’s virtual!)

“virtual training can’t work!”

If you’re saying

  • Understand the factors contributing to your dog’s behavior and how to apply the trauma informed care framework to change behavior

  • Repair your relationship with your dog by developing a secure attachment

Testimonial - Beau and Bandit

The Carnicles say “Training with Jade is a priceless experience and 100% worth it for you and your pet. Before our training with Jade we had a territorial dog that didn’t get along with one of our other dogs. There would be growling over toys and bones and getting into fights. It got to the point where they could not be in the same room without growling and fighting. At that point, we did not know what to do. Then we connected with Jade.

From the first session with Jade, she blew us away. Jade is very knowledgeable in what she does, patient, and flexible with scheduling without the pressure of making a specific/strict program. We highly recommend you listen and incorporate the teachings Jade will give you. After several sessions we have gained valuable knowledge that has led our dogs to reintegrate with each other. All 3 of our dogs get along great now. They are no longer fighting but constantly playing. Training with Jade is a complete game changer.”

Meet the trainer: Jade Johnson, BSc

I’m here to tell you, you can! All the techniques presented in the materials and suggested during coaching are solutions I have personally found sustainable to implement in my life with a sensitive dog, ADHD, and chronic fatigue. Frustrated with a lack of sustainable solutions for neurodivergent people in traditional training plans, I have made it my goal to make sure all behavior modification plans are custom designed to meet YOUR needs as much as the dog’s.

Through my education on dog behavior I have focused on trauma informed care for dogs and making behavior plans accessible for neurodivergent individuals. Before dog behavior, I studied ethics and biology with a focus on reptile intelligence and enrichment for my BSc.

FAQ

  • Virtual training works a lot better than it seems like it should. I can provide more accurate feedback on training sessions through video which can be watched at half speed and paused, and virtual sessions are far less stressful on dogs who are fearful or reactive toward people. When the coaching session is focused on helping you learn instead of being stressed out about managing your dog, you’re able to learn more and continue making progress after you’re no longer having regular sessions.

  • Virtual training is far more flexible than in person training, so virtual training sessions can look a little different for everyone. For someone who needs more skills practice, we can hold a training session with your dog and problem solve in real time. For other meetings, we might focus on discussing concepts and use video between sessions to check skills.

We will cover the same skills as most training programs cover in person, and more. We will cover leash skills, how to teach new behaviors, how to address things your dog is concerned about it as well as enrichment, management, and trauma informed principles of safety, relationship, stress relief, and coping.

  • Unfortunately, due to the nature of this program with the additional workbook and resources, the program is non-refundable. I advise scheduling a free call if you have questions or reaching out by email if you need help finding a positive trainer in your local area. Note everyone learns to the best of their ability online, and that’s ok! This program is for people who know themselves well enough to know they enjoy and excel at online learning.

  • Traumatic events are incredibly subjective and therefor difficult to say for sure whether an individual has or has not experienced trauma. Trauma informed care will benefit ALL dogs, not just dogs who have experienced large traumatic events and help them make progress around triggers, especially if you have previously worked with trainers on counter conditioning/desensitization and have plateaued at a certain point in your training. However, trauma informed care will be REQUIRED for dogs who have experienced more objectively traumatic events such as large medical events, high stress long distance transportation (imported dogs), or dogs separated from their litter too early.

  • Trauma informed care will benefit EVERY dog, not just dogs who have experiences a traumatic event. Trauma is not defined by the event that happened, but rather by the animal’s ability (or lack thereof) to cope, and the resulting long-lasting effect on the animal’s nervous system. There are events we can say are highly likely to produce trauma such as early separation from the litter or being imported from another country, but can also extend to medical events, vet visits, or the first scary experience with something. When in doubt, or when other training methods have failed, err on the side of “it might be trauma!”

“I highly recommend working with Jade at Charlie’s Way Behavior Consulting! I contacted Jade because I had a new pup and knew I needed some basic training work with him, but working with her has made a huge impact on both of our dogs! It was so fun to approach training from a stand point of helping him appropriately express and regulate his emotions. I take him all over and always get compliments about how well behaved he is. Watching a seven month old shrug off excitement and put himself in a behavioral down in the middle of an exciting environment is so rewarding. The bigger change though has been our older dog who is high drive. She is learning how to calm herself down and I’m so proud of her, It has made everyday life easier and I highly recommend behavioral training for anyone with a high drive or anxious pup.”
